Privacy policy
Effective October 10, 2026
Watch Party synchronizes playback between people watching the same movie or episode. This policy explains the data handled by the current desktop extension and its synchronization server.
Information we handle
- Playback information: the streaming service, movie or episode identifier, playback position, duration, play/pause/seek actions, buffering, readiness, connection status, and player errors.
- Page information: the supported playback page URL, title, episode details, and available artwork. Titles and artwork are used locally in the extension interface; the server exchanges service and content identifiers to match viewers.
- Room access information: random room and participant identifiers, invitation secrets, and reconnect credentials. These provide access to a room; they are not your streaming-service login credentials.
- Local preferences: the configured synchronization server address and temporary room session information.
The current extension does not ask for your name, email, payment details, location, or streaming-service password. It does not read personal messages or browsing history outside its supported streaming pages, record video or audio, or include advertising or analytics trackers.
Why this information is used
Information is used to create and join rooms, match content, synchronize playback, follow episode changes, display the current video, and recover interrupted connections. Your subtitle language, audio track, volume, and quality remain under your control.
Sharing and network connections
By default, Watch Party connects to our synchronization service hosted on Cloudflare Workers and Durable Objects. Cloudflare processes the connection and room data needed to deliver this service. You do not need to operate a server or keep a desktop PC running. If you choose a custom server, its operator handles that room data instead.
Playback information and room credentials are exchanged with the synchronization server configured in the extension. Other participants in your room receive the content identifier, shared playback state, and participant readiness and connection information. Reconnect credentials are not shared with other participants.
Anyone you give an invitation to can use it to request access to the room. Only share invitations with people you trust. The server operator can process the room data needed to provide synchronization. Streaming services and network providers handle their own data under their own privacy policies. Loading available artwork may make a request to the streaming service's image servers.
The supplied server does not intentionally log IP addresses or viewing history. Network and hosting providers may process connection metadata, including IP addresses, to deliver their services.
Storage and retention
The server address is stored locally in your browser. Temporary room and reconnect credentials are stored in browser session storage. Room state is held in server memory, rather than a persistent viewing-history database. Empty rooms expire after approximately ten minutes; server deployments or runtime restarts may clear existing rooms. Disconnected participants may remain in room state to support reconnection while a room remains active.
Your choices
Leave a room to stop participating in synchronization. Close the streaming tab or disable the extension to stop its access to that page. Remove the extension to remove its browser-managed local data. Contact the operator of your configured server about any additional hosting logs or retention policies.
Security and limited use
Remote server connections use HTTPS/WSS. Local connections on the same computer may use HTTP/WS. Room access uses random invitation secrets and separate reconnect credentials.
Watch Party does not sell user data, use it for advertising, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending. Data is used and transferred only to provide the extension's stated functionality and as permitted by the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
This page and policy changes
This static policy page contains no forms, analytics scripts, or advertising trackers. Its hosting provider may process routine request information to serve the page. We will update this policy and relevant store disclosures before introducing materially different data practices. The effective date above identifies this version.
